WVU Medicine Surgeons Guide Students in Anatomy, Surgical Skills Course

Thirteen medical students recently completed the Practical Anatomy and Surgical Skills (PASS) course led by WVU Medicine surgeons and faculty at the WVU School of Medicine.

The PASS course is a hands-on training experience with cadavers. It serves as a “surgical bootcamp” experience as the fourth-year students transition into various surgical and nonsurgical fields.

Led by Patrick C. Bonasso II, MD, MBA, the course included anatomy review, simulation, lectures on various topics, and surgeon-directed cadaver lab operations in a variety of specialties, including urology, obstetrics/gynecology, plastic surgery, orthopaedics, and radiology, as well as general surgery. During the final week of the course, students participated in the fresh tissue training program surgical skills lab with the support of Daniel Grabo, MD, skills lab director.

Medical students from the Morgantown, Charleston, and Eastern campuses of the School of Medicine participated.

This was the 13th year that the course was offered at the WVU School of Medicine. Conley Coleman, DO, Doug Murken, MD, and Alan Thomay, MD, serve as co-directors for the program.
