Cancer-focused graduate student funding opportunities for 2026

The WVU Cancer Institute is pleased to release the 2026 Notice of Funding Opportunities for the following awards for students nearing the end of their studies:

WVUCI Doctoral Research Award

The goal of this award is to support a highly productive graduate student for a 6-month semester in the completion of research for an approved cancer-focused dissertation proposal, with the option of extending the award for an additional 6-month semester to complete dissertation writing.

WVUCI Doctoral Dissertation Award

The goal of this award is to support the final 6-month semester of dissertation writing for a graduate student with a cancer-focused project who has met all the programmatic criteria for graduation except writing and defending their dissertation.

Timeline 

  • Monday, March 2 - Proposal Window Opens
    • Both of these awards will open for proposals on Monday, March 2, and can be viewed here: https://wvucancer.piestar-rfx.com/opportunities.
    • A Letter of Intent must be completed in the online application system, and only invited applicants will complete a full proposal.
  • Monday, March 16 - The Letter of Intent is Due 

Info Sessions

Two informational sessions will be offered via Zoom: 

  • Wednesday, March 4, at 12 p.m.
  • Wednesday, March 11, at 12 p.m.
