Anesthesiology residents boast exceptional test results

The West Virginia University School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology recently reported exceptional testing results for their residents on the 2025 in-training exam.

An unprecedented seven residents achieved perfect scores, which according to the department, is as many as any anesthesia residency program in the United States. Typically, no more than 60 residents across the country achieve this distinction so it truly remarkable to have so many at WVU.

Even more noteworthy, both the PGY3 and PGY4 classes averaged well above the 90th percentile overall, placing their results off the charts as reported back to the programs.

“It’s truly a team effort and all credit goes to our remarkable faculty led by our Education team that includes Arpan Kohli, M.D.; Grant Neely, M.D.; Hallisey Estes, D.O.; and Julie Huffmyer, M.D., who are especially committed to medical education,” said Edward Nemergut, M.D., Department of Anesthesiology chair and professor.
