Chris Goode, MD, FACEP, received the 2024 911 Network Member of the Year Award from the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) at the organization’s annual meeting April 14-16 in Washington, D.C.

ACEP presents the award to members who “went above and beyond to advocate for the emergency medicine and patients on the federal level.”

Dr. Goode, chair of Emergency Medicine for WVU Medicine, is a leader in advocacy for emergency medicine and patients, and has made it a personal mission to get to know and advocate to his local and federal legislators with the sole intent of improving acute care for all who seek it.

Most recently, he initiated the development of the Physician Advisory Board for his member of Congress and found opportunities to shore up emergency medical services (EMS) resources on the state level, working with West Virginia Governor Jim Justice’s administration. Dr. Goode spends much of his time working with organizations, such as the U.S. Forest Service, military contacts, state officials, and the ski industry, to ensure that everyone who visits the state is provided the best emergency care available.

As Emergency Medicine chair, Dr. Goode oversees care provided to more than 550,000 emergency department and urgent care patients in more than 20 locations throughout West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Ohio. His team includes 250 physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and resident physicians. Within the state, Dr. Goode serves at the chair of the Legislative Committee for the West Virginia State Medical Association, working with state leaders and partner organizations to advocate for patients and providers, while also serving on the board of multiple EMS agencies throughout West Virginia, confronting the challenges of rural EMS delivery.

Congratulations, Dr. Goode, on this well-deserved recognition!
